The board of directors of the Bank of Canada has appointed Sylvain Leduc as deputy governor, effective May 2, 2016. Leduc will fill the spot of Agathe Côté, who retired in January.

In his new role, Leduc will join the Bank’s governing council, which makes monetary policy decisions and ensures financial system stability. He will share responsibility with deputy governor Lynn Patterson for overseeing the Bank’s financial system activities, and will oversee the Bank’s analysis of international and domestic economic developments alongside deputy governors Tim Lane and Larry Schembri.

Leduc is currently vice president of Microeconomic and Macroeconomic Research at the Federal Reserve Bank of San Francisco. He’s worked at the San Francisco Fed since 2008.
