PlanPlus announced the inaugural winners of its Global Financial Planning Awards yesterday.

The 2013 prize included an all-expense paid trip to the Financial Planning Association Experience 2013 Conference in Florida, where the awards were presented. The awards recognize some of the top financial planners in the world based on how well they serve clients.

The first-place winner from the Americas was Sandra Mews, a CFP from Canada. The winner from the Asia region was James Kenny, a CFP from Australia.

Kenny says the evaluation process is tough, with judges requiring the submission of an actual financial plan that’s been designed for a client (with that client’s approval). Five-person panels judged the plans in each region.
