Former GMP trader Michael Wekerle is back on Bay Street with his own firm, Toronto Life reports.

He was pushed out of GMP in 2010 after the company bought Richardson Partners and he drunkenly took the stage at a roast for Newcap Radio’s Rob Steele, reports the magazine.

Wekerle opened Difference Capital in 2012 along with former head of corporate affairs for CTVglobemedia Paul Sparkes, and Henry Kneis. It’s a merchant bank with a focus on financing tech companies.

Wekerle is known as a risk taker. His reputation as a partier and his relatively unproven skills as a merchant banker haven’t stopped Difference from accumulating $220 million in assets under management in just over a year.
