The federal government has introduced legislation that will reduce red tape for small businesses.

The proposed law, referred to as the one-for-one rule, will limit the number of requirements government departments can impose on businesses by making them remove one for every new one imposed, notes the Canadian Federation of Independent Business (CFIB).

“The government implemented the one-for-one rule last year. Legislating it shows they are really serious about regulatory reform. It’s important because it makes it much harder to undo,” says CFIB’s executive vice president Laura Jones.

The Federal Government earned a B+ this year on CFIB’s annual red tape report card.
