The Alberta Securities Commission has appointed Tom Cotter as a vice-chair for a six-year term, effective April 1, 2014.

Cotter will act as an adjudicator of certain applications, disputes, appeals and enforcement proceedings. He’ll also serve as a Commission member, meaning he’ll help oversee the management of the Commission, and consider and approve changes to Alberta securities laws.

Cotter is a partner in the Business Law Group at McCarthy Tétrault in Calgary. Previously, he’s advised companies and investment firms on: public offerings, private placements, cross-border financings, mergers and acquisitions, reorganizations, recapitalizations, going-private transactions, corporate governance, proxy contests and regulatory compliance.
