Apple is in discussions to buy Beats Electronics, the company behind the Beats by Dr. Dre headphones, in what would be Apple’s largest-ever acquisition, reports the New York Times.

If the deal succeeds, it would also include Beats Electronics’ new streaming service, marking Apple’s entry into the music-streaming sphere. The purchase would deviate from Apple’s download-centric history, namely shifting from their music download program iTunes.

The music world was transformed by Apple’s iTunes when it was created in 2003, says the New York Times, but its market share is shrinking as listeners are shifting to streaming services.
