A Canadian firm has launched three low-carbon indexes today.

Corporate Knights Capital, a Toronto-based investment advisory and research firm, has partnered with German indexing firm Solactive to create the indexes. They’re meant to provide exposure to best-in-class companies in carbon-intensive sectors – energy, materials, utilities and industrials — while maintaining benchmark exposure to other sectors.

The indexes have at least 50% lower carbon intensity than market benchmarks, as verified by South Pole Carbon.

The new indexes are Solactive CK Low Carbon U.S. Index, Solactive CK Low Carbon Europe Index, and Solactive CK Low Carbon Canada Index. This family has been designed as a benchmark or an underlying index for low-carbon investment strategies.
