In his book The Organized Mind: Thinking Straight in the Age of Information Overload, author and McGill neuroscientist Daniel Levitin explains the brain can’t cope with the hundreds of decisions, large and small, we bombard it with every day.

The Globe has some strategies to boost your brainpower, including evaluating the probability something may happen against its downsides; writing more information down by hand, instead of typing; and using electronic reminders to offload some of the stress of remembering.
