In 2009, we asked advisors to share their funniest tales in hopes of bringing some levity to the dark days of the financial crisis.

Now, you’ve provided us with fresh laughs. Read on for this week’s installment.

Seasonality effect

A Manitoba advisor tells us: “One of my first financial planning meetings was going fantastic until I asked my client, ‘How do you plan to spend your time in retirement?’

“She replied, ‘I will be doing a lot of gardening.’

“Being from Winnipeg, I quipped, ‘What will you do for the other six months of the year?’ She looked absolutely shocked as she’d never thought that through.

“All ended well — she realized she could spend more time with her grandkids.”

A different shade of green

One advisor tells us, “My client referred her father to me. During our KYC discussion, I asked what his longer-term goals were. He responded, ‘I don’t even risk buying green bananas!’ ”

Needless to say, he’s in low-risk money-market funds, and is quite satisfied.
