Scotiabank has named Brian Porter as its president, effective November 1, 2012. Rick Waugh continues in his role as CEO, with Brian Porter reporting to him.

Brian is currently the group head of international banking; he oversees all of the bank’s personal, small business and commercial banking operations in more than 55 countries outside of Canada.

He was previously Scotiabank’s chief risk officer for five years, and joined the bank in 1981.

Waugh will have four direct reports: president, chief operating officer; group head of global human resources and communications; and group head of global risk management.

All four business lines—Canadian Banking, International Banking, Global Wealth Management and Global Banking and Markets—will report directly Porter.

Concurrently, Dieter Jentsch will succeed Brian Porter as group head of International Banking, effective November 1. He’s currently the executive vice president of Latin America, and has been with the bank since 1983.

Two other appointments are effective November 1, 2012: Sue Graham Parker has been named executive vice president of Global Human Resources, and James McPhedran has been appointed as executive vice president of Retail Distribution and Canadian Banking.
