When you go to someone else’s cottage, you get to reap the rewards of BBQs and waterskiing without having to worry if the plumbing is working or if the mice have been eating all the spare linen.

Those are someone else’s problems.

But are you asking too much of your host? Do you offer to pitch in with cottage maintenance? Did you bring enough booze to constitute an adequate gift? Or are you asking to be tucked in with an evening hot chocolate and shrieking at the sight of every spider?

Take Maclean’s Cottage Quiz to find out if you’re a tolerable guest.
