Raghuram Rajan has been named the new governor for the Reserve Bank of India (RBI). He succeeds Duvvuri Subbarao, whose five-year tenure ends on September 4, 2013, reports Reuters.

Rajan previously was a former International Monetary Fund chief economist, and in 2005 he predicted the global financial crisis.
