Nearly a month after the “Occupy Wall Street” protests first started in New York, a similar protest is coming to Toronto’s Bay Street on October 15 at 10 a.m. The Toronto Chapter of the Occupy Movement is going all out to garner support ahead of the big day.

The invitation on the official website has been extended to “you, your friends, your barber, the cook from the diner down the street, that guy you always see walking home – what his name again?”

“We want to see you talking about the issues. Only if you come and participate in Occupy Toronto, will we establish our end game, our goals.”

What Occupy Toronto hopes to accomplish is start a movement that will offer a non-violent solution to corporate greed.

It all started with the Occupy Wall Street protest Sept. 17 in New York with a few dozen demonstrators. It has since grown in size and popularity.

By staging sit-ins and rallies organizers, and participants, are trying to draw attention to unscrupulous practices and economic inequality. They have certainly succeeded in drawing President Obama’s attention who said the protesters are expressing the frustrations of the American public. This acknowledgment could herald the formation of a political uprising.

The cause indeed is contentious. Not surprisingly, Canada could not escape its viral effect. The movement is gaining momentum in Toronto and calls are being made for public relations professional or student who are “interested in working with Occupy Toronto” and who “understands the Occupy Movement.”

The movement’s official website lists items that are vital to the movement. They include heat generator, tarps, thermal blankets, sleeping bags, cardboard, cold/flu medicine or remedies, first aid kits, mobile wifi adapter, etc.

They even have a Facebook page. They, dear friends, mean business.
