Mackenzie Investments has named Tony Elavia, PhD, as the new chief investment officer and executive vice-president.

Elavia has 25 years of industry experience, with a background in investment management for both retail and institutional clients in the U.S. and in Canada.

Prior to his current role, he held progressively senior positions at a U.S.-based insurance company subsidiary, and leadership roles at three asset management firms in the U.S., including Putnam Investments where he co-managed three funds with total assets exceeding US$25 billion.

“Tony’s extensive investment career and his experience managing both money and investment teams make him a tremendous fit for the CIO role,” said Charles R. Sims, president and CEO. “As a firm we are focused on investment excellence and Tony will be crucial to helping us maintain this focus.”
