Manulife Financial has named Craig Bromley as senior executive vice president and general manager of its U.S. Division, and as president of John Hancock Financial Services, effective September 1, 2012.

Bromley will report directly to Manulife president and CEO Donald A. Guloien, and will join the company’s executive committee.

He’s currently leading Manulife’s business in Japan—the world’s second largest insurance market. In 2004, he led Manulife’s merger with John Hancock Financial Services.

“[Bromley] is a strategic business builder,” says Guloien.

He will be replacing Jim Boyle, who’s retiring but remaining until the end of the fiscal year to facilitate a smooth transition.

Prior to Bromley’s post in Japan, he served as senior vice president of business development and investor relations of Manulife Financial. Before joining the company in 2000, he worked in banking and management consulting.
