Horizons ETFs Management has announced that, as of December 31, 2015, Howard Atkinson will retire after almost a decade with the firm.

Atkinson joined Horizons ETFs in 2006 as one of its founding principals, and he’s been responsible for the distribution and marketing activities of the firm. Over the course of his 28-year career, he has also been an industry commentator and advocate.

Atkinson originally joined Horizons ETFs as executive vice-president in October 2006. Prior to that, he was head of business development for the exchange traded products business at Barclays Global Investors Canada (which is now iShares), and he has also held positions with national investment dealers and major mutual fund companies.

Atkinson also represented Horizons ETFs as one of the three founding members of the Canadian ETF Association, and was CETFA’s inaugural chair from 2011 to 2015.
