The gender gap extends to quotable quotes, too.

Data analysis firm 4th Estate recently conducted research concerning the lack of women’s voices in media coverage of the 2012 U.S. election between November 2011 and May 2012.

Turns out, women aren’t being interviewed about issues that directly concern them. Men account for 81% of quotes in print media concerning abortion; 75% of quotes concerning birth control; and 67% of quotes on Planned Parenthood.

On the issue of women’s rights, men gave 52% of quotes, women 31%, and organizations the remaining quotes.

In U.S. print media, women have given only 13% of all quotations during the 2012 U.S. election coverage; on television, that rises to 16%.
