The average Canadian spends more than 45 hours online each month, finds a new ComScore white paper called 2012 Canada Digital Future in Focus.

In fact, many people routinely start and end the day by plugging into their devices without a second thought.

Reflecting upon this trend, The Toronto Star recently stated that our growing dependence on technology doesn’t come without cost. It claims new research suggests our stress levels, abilities and social skills are at great risk.

It adds even youngsters in elementary school now have trouble participating in face-to-face interactions and discussions. They’re becoming socially awkward and are developing Web addictions. Read more.

Also consider that reliance on technology could adversely affect businesses. Companies that depend on customer satisfaction and referrals—like advisory firms and retail stores—need staff that can communicate effectively on their front lines.
