The president and CEO of the Financial Planning Standards Council (FPSC) has been appointed board president of the Washington-based Institute for Credentialing Excellence (ICE) for its 2012 term.

“ICE is incredibly fortunate to have Cary List as its incoming president,” said Denise Roosendall, CAE, executive director of ICE. “His organizational expertise, as well as his understanding of the challenges and opportunities facing the international credentialing community, is extensive. ICE will benefit from his strategic perspective and innovative approach towards creating value for ICE members as he connects ICE to other inter-industry organizations and the international community.”

List has spent the past two decades promoting professional certification among financial advisors. He oversaw the launch of the CFP Financial Planning Practice Standards (2004) and the CFP Professional Competency Profile (2005), which clearly defined the knowledge, skills, abilities, and attitudes financial planners must have to meet the needs and expectations of their clients.

“I am looking forward to taking on this leadership role with ICE, the premiere organization representing a diverse, credentialing community,” said List. “Professional certification is integral to the credibility of any professional service. I will continue to build upon the work that ICE has already done to advance quality certification standards and training in the certification community that serves so many professions and their respective stakeholders.”
