The average job search lasts four months, says a survey by Workopolis.
And two-thirds of Canadians say they applied to more than 10 positions before getting hired, finds the Workopolis study.

Once they get a position, how long workers spend at their jobs is going down. Between 1990 and 2000, the number of people who keep their jobs for less than two years rose from 16% to 33%, says Workopolis.
The job-seekers’ website has some tips for those looking for work that may be useful to any clients who are between posts.
- Always send a thank-you note after an interview.
- If you don’t hear back a while after an interview, send another note re-stating your enthusiasm, mentioning details from the interview, and inquiring about the job’s status.
And if you’re hiring staff, follow up with each candidate who is interviewed. Everyone should have a positive experience with your company, regardless of whether he or she gets the job.
