To find a great job or move up the ladder in the current employment market, you need more than a dapper suit and strong resume.

Case in point: Forbes reports about 80% of new or available positions are filled via hidden, or internal, postings. Companies save time and resources by forgoing formal processes.

Not to mention, many educated Canadians are struggling to even start careers, finds a recent CIBC report. The problem is there are more temporary positions being offered, and many companies are restructuring or downsizing.

So, Forbes says those hunting for jobs must always do the following:

  • Boost their networking efforts and always reach out directly to companies
  • Follow relevant business news (when a company enters a new partnership or closes a major deal, they may start hiring)
