Noted British wine writer Hugh Johnson, who has been building a private seller for half a century, is selling his entire collection worth more than $150,000 including such rare vintages as 1945 Chateau Latour and 1971 German Riesling.

The author of World Atlas of Wine (1971), who began collecting wine bottles in the 1960s, is said to have had a hard time deciding to let his collection go under the hammer in an Essex auction on Monday, reports Guardian.co.uk.

As expected, his decision has disappointed some critics who’re vociferously opposed to “the growing trend among rich investors of warehousing wine for profit.”
