Since Mark Carney’s official start as BOE governor, Brits (and some Canadians) have anticipated his first public statement.

The Wall Street Journal reports Carney’s first order of business was to address the decision to remove the only woman who appears on a British bank note, other than the Queen.

The Bank of England will replace Elizabeth Fry, who appears on the five-pound note, with Winston Churchill in 2015. In a letter to a concerned MP, Carney writes he will confer with colleagues how to better celebrate the diversity of British historical figures and will announce the results by the end of July.
