But the truth is, most films don’t benefit from nominations or wins, reports Market Watch.

In fact, only five out of the nine movies nominated for best picture this Sunday saw boosts in sales the weekend after they were named as award contenders—and that was partially due to studios shelling out more to have their movies play in additional theatres.
