In 40 cities across Canada, 959 candidates wrote the FPSC Level 1 exam or the CFP exam last Nomember. Here’s how they did.

The FPSC Level 1 exam is the first on the path to CFP certification and a requirement for FPSC Level 1 certification. It was written by 535 candidates, with an overall pass rate of 74%. Of the candidates who wrote the exam, 454 were first-time writers (77% pass rate), while 81 were re-attempting the exam (57% pass rate). To qualify to write the four-hour multiple-choice exam, candidates must have successfully completed an FPSC-Approved Core Curriculum program.

The CFP examination is the final exam on the path to CFP certification. It was written by 424 candidates, with an overall pass rate of 62%. Of the candidates who wrote the exam, 326 were first-time writers (73% pass rate), while 98 were re-attempting the exam (25% pass rate). To qualify to write the six-hour exam, which consists of a combination of constructed-response and multiple-choice questions, candidates must have obtained FPSC Level 1 certification and successfully completed an FPSC-Approved Capstone Course.

Once they have completed three years of qualifying financial planning work experience, successful CFP examination candidates qualify to apply for CFP certification. There are approximately 17,000 Certified Financial Planner professionals across Canada, part of a global community of almost 162,000 CFP professionals in 26 territories around the world.
