If a client is looking to buy a home, urge him to consider both his short- and long-term life goals before taking the plunge.

As Moneysense magazine reports, this is important because the majority of homebuyers have at least one regret after buying their homes, according to a recent survey by U.S. mortgage research company HSH.com.

The survey says homebuyers’ common regrets include:

  • not looking into insurance and property tax rates (22%, and more than 20%); and
  • not considering how close schools are, for those couples that later want to have children (14%).
