Manulife president and CEO Donald Guloien has decided to retire as of September 30.
Manulife has announced that Roy Gori, who was already set to become Manulife’s president as of June 5, will succeed Guloien as CEO and join Manulife’s Board of Directors as of October 1. Gori’s appointment is subject to immigration approvals.

Gori currently serves as senior executive vice-president and general manager of Manulife’s Asia division. As president, he will lead Manulife’s Canadian, U.S. and investment operations, in addition to Asia. He will also be responsible for developing and executing the company’s business strategy.
Phil Witherington, currently the CFO of the Asia division, will also become the division’s interim CEO, effective June 5.

Manulife says Michael Doughty, who currently serves as president and general manager of John Hancock Insurance, has been appointed general manager of the U.S. division on an interim basis, subject to necessary approvals.
