The governor of the Bank of Canada, Stephen Poloz, and an assortment of international regulators are headlining the Ontario Securities Commission’s (OSC) upcoming annual conference.
The OSC has announced the preliminary agenda for the conference, known as Dialogue, which will feature a keynote discussion between Poloz and OSC chair Maureen Jensen focusing on the central bank’s approach to emerging risks and financial stability.
The event, which is slated for Nov. 21 in Toronto, will also examine the effects of innovation, the future of securities regulation and the evolving global economy, among other things.
“As markets evolve, our focus is on adapting regulations to ensure Ontario businesses can thrive and investors are protected. Dialogue 2019 is an important forum for leaders, stakeholders, regulators and market participants to discuss the way forward,” Jensen said in a statement.
The speaker lineup also includes a variety of international regulators, such as Ashley Alder, chair of the International Organization of Securities Commissions (IOSCO) and CEO of Hong Kong’s Securities and Futures Commission (SFC); Cathie Armour from the Australian Securities & Investments Commission (ASIC); Elisabeth Roegele, deputy president and chief executive director, securities supervision, with Germany’s Federal Financial Supervisory Authority (BaFin); and Robert Cook, president and CEO of the U.S.-based Financial Industry Regulatory Authority (FINRA).
The chief economists of CIBC Capital Markets, RBC Global Asset Management Inc., TD Bank Group and RSM US LLP are also slated to speak at the session.
