CIBC proved the strength of Canada’s banks when it landed on Bloomberg’s list of the world’s strongest institutions this past month. Now, Retail Banker International (RBI) has recognized RBC as the best retail bank in North America.
The international group also named Dave McKay, group head of Canadian banking at RBC, as retail banker of the year.
RBC was the only Canadian bank to win an award, after being shortlisted in five categories. The most notable were Global Retail Bank of the Year, Best Branch Strategy and Best Online Banking Strategy.
“RBC maintained high levels of sustainable profitable growth over the past year, and achieved growth amid an environment of economic uncertainty, low GDP growth, high unemployment and downward pressure on net interest margins,” says Douglas Blakey, editor of Retail Banker International.
He adds, “Dave McKay demonstrated outstanding performance and leadership.”
