Scotiabank CEO Rick Waugh has been appointed as an Officer of the Order of Canada.

His appointment is one of 91 awarded by avid Johnston, Canada’s Governor General.

“Waugh has remained a proud Canadian, as well as a vocal advocate of this country’s world-leading banking system,” says John Mayberry, Scotiabank’s chairman of the board.

Dr. Indira Samarasekera, president and vice-chancellor of the University of Alberta and member of the bank’s board, nominated Waugh.

Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II established the Order of Canada in 1967. Since that time, more than 5 000 people from all sectors of Canadian society have been appointed as officers.
