Scotiabank has teamed up with India’s Kotak Mahindra Bank to provide financial services to new Canadian immigrants, as well as to Indo-Canadians seeking help in India.

“We’ve had a presence in India for the past 30 years,” says Troy Wright, Scotiabank’s executive vice president of retail distribution, Canadian banking.

Select Kotak Mahindra branches will offer its Canada-bound residents access to Scotiabank’s newcomer program before they leave the country, which will help them open accounts and complete credit applications in advance.

And select Scotiabank branches will further help non-resident Indian customers open accounts in India by referring them to Kotak’s similar program.

“Moving around the world is an enormous undertaking, and clients need financial stability and aid during the transition,” says Winnie Leong, Scotiabank’s vice president of multicultural banking.
