Shaking off the effects of falling Asian and European stock markets, U.S. equities registered gains and even hit new highs.

An improvement in investor sentiment caused by positive U.S. payroll data resulted in the S&P 500 trading 0.3% higher by midday Monday to 1,619.44, reports FT.com.

However, global stocks on the FTSE All World index were “nearly flat” while Europe’s stock markets were “broadly lower.”
